Calhoun High’s first-ever entry into the Southern Stingray regionals of the National Ocean Science Bowl has been hard at work preparing for this fast-paced quiz competition. Sixteen teams from Georgia and South Carolina will gather on the campus of USC-Columbia for the ninth edition of this unique program which tests high school students in the areas of oceanography, marine biology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, literature and history. The top team will win a travel package to the national finals to be held in northern California.

Members of the CHS team include (left to right): Michael Butler, Rikin Patel, Richard Huie (captain), and Zac Carrier. Terry Bennett serves as the CHS coach; this is his fifth year of coaching an NOSB team.
