The Academic Quiz Team of Calhoun High School competed in the Georgia Academic Team Association state finals in Bleckley County on Saturday, March 4. The Jackets returned to Calhoun with two awards: the state AA Sportsmanship Trophy and the award for representing Region 6 of AA in the state finals. Calhoun entered three freshmen and one sophomore in the finals at Cochran; they were the youngest team in the field of eleven competing for the top prizes in AA. Atlanta’s Paideia School won the state AA title with Lamar County placing second. The quiz bowl format covers social sciences, fine arts, mathematics, and natural sciences. Calhoun will next apply to enter the GATA Junior Varsity State Finals at Gray scheduled for April 22. Team members included: Zach Carrier, Captain, David Clemons, Richard Huie, and Rikin Patel. Terry Bennett, a member of the CHS science faculty, coaches the Jackets. Herff Jones supplied all of the medals and trophies for the annual event.
