Congratulations to two CHS sophomore Yellow Jackets on their being selected for the 2007 edition of the Oak Ridge Associated Universities/Appalachian Regional Commission’s Summer Math Science Institute.  The 2007 delegates from the Hive are Cody Franks and Candy Cason.  These students’ applications were reviewed by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, North Georgia College and State University’s GACHE (higher education access program) office, and the Appalachian Regional Commission in Washington, DC. The program will run from July 7-20 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

All expenses (food, lodging, travel, admission tickets) are covered.  Approximately 30 students and 10 teachers from the eleven states encompassed by Appalachia will be invited. Among the highlights of their stay will be: completion of a research project on the Oak Ridge campus, a field trip to the Lost Sea, a VIP night at the Tennessee Smokies baseball stadium, a bat tracking night on the campus of Oak Ridge High School, a tour of the science programs at UT-Knoxville and a special tour of the American Museum of Science and Energy.
