The Calhoun High School literary team brought home some heavy hardware and a State Championship from Warner Robbins the weekend of March 16 and 17. The team qualified for state competition after winning the regional championship at Georgia Highlands on March 10th.
Students that placed in Region Competition were:
First place: Ricky Coates for Boys Extemporaneous Speaking
Kaitlin DeFoor for Girls Extemporaneous Speaking
Adam Joyave for Boys Essay,
Claire Kersey for Girls Spelling
Travis Ford for Boys Dramatic
Brandon Wood, Andrew Bentley, Adam Joyave and Anthony Audino for Boys Quartet.
Second place wins went to:
Caroline Miles for Girls Essay
Kristina Edwards, Marissa Chilton and Ellory Bishop for Girls Trio.
Third place awards were received by
Clayton Hall for Boys Solo
Marissa Chilton for Girls Solo
Dana Higgins for Girls Dramatic Interpretation
Adam Moyer took fourth place in Boys Spelling
Region 6AA schools include: Adairsville, Armurchee, Calhoun, Coosa, Chattooga, Dad County, Darlington, Model, Pepperell and Rockmart.
The Region first place winners move on to State competition, and every person, Elaine Little, Literary Coach, brought along medaled.
The Quartet got Fourth
Boys and Girls Extemp (Ricky Coates and Kaitlin DeFoor) and Boys Dramatic Interpretation (Travis Ford) earned seconds
And Claire Kersey for the 2nd time took first in Girl’s Spelling.
Claire has won Girl’s Spelling at the Region level all four years here at CHS. Adam Joyave has placed first in boys essay in region for the past two years.
The Calhoun Team has taken 2nd place at the Region level the past three years, and finally this year they brought home all the glory and the gold.
Mrs. Little said, “The trophy was so large she had to put it in the passenger seat next to her, fastened with the seat belt.”
