Derikas Hines, Ashton Dorsey and Brittney Geary members of Calhoun High School’s GCSA (Georgia Career Student Association) are the "Mighty Minute Mentors". These students have been making a huge difference in the lives of some Calhoun Middle Schoolers. The "Mighty Minute Mentors" have been meeting weekly and helping selected students with their school work. "What some people think takes a lot of time really does not. This has truly been a rewarding experience; seeing the difference that we are making in these young people’s lives. Everyone should take a few minutes of his or her time to mentor!" said Derikas Hines.
This is an entirely self initiated service project. These students personally contacted the Calhoun Middle School counselor, Jimmy Goswick, and asked if they could mentor some students that could use some extra help and encouragement. "I was very impressed by the initiative these students took to make this activity happen. They are very dedicated and enthusiastic about what they are doing, and I am very proud of their efforts," said Greg Green Assistant Principal at Calhoun High School. DERIKAS WEB.JPG
