Calhoun Elementary School Principal Michelle Knight has been named the new Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning for Calhoun City Schools. A 1985 graduate of Calhoun High School, Mrs. Knight has taught in both Gordon County and Calhoun City Schools. In 2004, she was selected as Calhoun City School's Teacher of the Year. She earned National Board Certification in 2003 and has taught kindergarten, first, second, third, fourth and fifth grade students. She received her gifted endorsement in 1996 and began teaching gifted students. She served as the School Improvement Specialist for Calhoun Elementary School from 2002-2004 and became Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction the following year. She has served as principal for the past three years.
As a leader in Calhoun City Schools, Mrs. Knight has demonstrated exemplary performance in the eight roles of leadership.
Mrs. Knight is a 2006 graduate of the Calhoun / Gordon County Leadership Program, a member of the Professional Association of Georgia Educators, Georgia Association of Educational Leaders, ADK, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. She is a member of Calhoun First United Methodist Church and Calhoun's Kiwanis Club. The Central Office welcomes Mrs. Knight aboard.
