The Calhoun High School Danceline has been performing at the home basketball games for the 2009-2010 season. The girls dance two routines each night during the girls and boys halftimes. The girls are sponsored by Mary Ellen McCall who teaches at the Calhoun Middle School. The year has really been a step up from the past with the girls being able to have six routines to perform, which is three more than last year. A variety of songs include: "Chorus Line," "Ima Shine," "Please Don’t Stop the Music," "The Tryout Song" and "Boom Boom Pow." A crowd favorite is a routine performed by captain, Katelyn Merrick, and co-captain, Monica Quinn, to the tune of Michael Jackson’s "Beat It." The girls attended a camp to learn the routines this summer, and coach Pam Quinn of Dancers Workshop, along with the captains added extra choreography. McCall and Quinn said they were very pleased by the girls’ dedication. The girls also performed at the recent Calhoun City School Talent Show and are planning to compete at a few dance competitions, which will be a first for any CHS danceline. Tryouts for next year’s line will be in May; contact Mary Ellen McCall for more information.
