Meet. Mrs. Brown
Welcome to first grade!  I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year.  I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you.  My name is Polly Brown, a lifelong resident of Calhoun, educated in the  Calhoun City Schools.  I graduated from Calhoun High School in 1983 and received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Georgia in 1987.   I immediately  began my teaching career at Eastside Primary School.  My teaching experience includes K-5 and working with at-risk students at CHS.  I am married to Jeff Brown and have two children Emily and Mallory.  Emily is a senior at Georgia Tech and Mallory is a sophomore at the University of Georgia. You might say that our  house is a “house divided “!  Feel free to contact me any time with questions or concerns. Our class is known as “Mrs. Brown’s Hounds”  and we will have a “paws-itively” great year!

Class Introduction
First grade is a challenging grade with a big transition for the former kindergarten student.  In first grade, we teach units based on the Georgia Performance Standards. Subject areas are reading, grammar, writing, and math units that  embed social studies and science whenever possible. Your child will  continue flex reading and interventions like in kindergarten, so your child may be taught  by another first grade teacher during these times. These groups are based on your child’s individual needs. As stated earlier, first grade is a challenging year, but we tend to see tremendous growth with our students.
