First grade is a challenging grade with a big transition for the former kindergarten student. In first grade, we teach units based on the Georgia Performance Standards. Subject areas are reading, grammar, writing, and math units that embed social studies and science whenever possible. Your child will continue flex reading and interventions like in kindergarten, so your child may be taught by another first grade teacher during these times. These groups are based on your child’s individual needs. As stated earlier, first grade is a challenging year, but we tend to see tremendous growth with our students.
