Calhoun's cross country program began in 1968.  The 2012 group will begin the program's 45th season on August 13th.  Since 1968 the boys team has won the region meet 16 times and the girls team once.  During the previous 44 season the boys team has placed in the top 4 at the state meet 13 times.  The boys team has qualified for the state meet 34 times and the girls have qualified 8 times.  The 2011 teams were 7th (boys) at the region meet and 2nd (girls).  The girls team completed their season at the state meet with a 15th place finish.

The 2011 group included 10 seniors.  Key losses will be Alise Anderson and Jennifer Baggett, 4 year letter winners; Travis Hall, Alex Hernandez, Lily Pegueros, and Leslie Sardeneta, 3 year letter winners; and Alex Briner and Emmanuel Ramirez, 2 year letter winners.  Key returnees from the 2011 team are Malone Blalock (Sr.), John David Box (Jr.), Erin Putnam, (So.), Francisco 'Paco' Ramirez (So.), and Unique Sardeneta (So.).

 Raymond Hobby is entering his 7th year as the high school head coach.
Lynn Walter is the cross country coach emeritus.  Brant Murry is
beginning his 3rd year as the middle school coach.

The season's first official practice will be August 13th at 5:30.  All
cross country candidates should meet at the River Park soccer fields.
All comers are welcome.

Home meets are held at New Echota State Historic Site on Ga. Hwy. 225,
northeast of Calhoun.
