I have the pleasure of teaching math, science, and social studies at Calhoun Elementary School. My teammate, Keri Robbins, will be teaching reading, language arts, and writing. In math, we will use the Workshop Model which allows students to use learning and performance tasks to become active problem solvers while making real-world connections. They will learn that the process of finding an answer is just as important as the solution itself. Students will build on their addition, subtraction, multiplication, geometry, and measurement skills, and will be introduced to division concepts as well. Mastering multiplication facts is a very important goal for 3rd graders, so this will be worked on throughout the year. In science, we will conduct investigations to learn more about rocks, minerals, soils, fossils, magnets, heat, resources, and plants & animals of Georgia. We will take a fun, yet educational, field trip to the Tellus Museum that students won’t want to miss! In Social Studies, we will be learning about the levels and branches of our government and key Americans who helped shape our society today such as, Paul Revere, Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass, to name a few. It’s going to be an exciting and fun year of learning together!
