**Any 9 th, 10 th, or 11 th grade students who are interested in attending the Air Force Academy or who are seeking ROTC scholarship opportunities should mark their calendars for the following event:

The Department of the Air Force will be hosting the USAFA and ROTC Scholarship and Career Planning Seminar on Sunday, March 21, 2011, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Air Force ROTC Detachment 165 @ Georgia Tech, 151 Sixth St., O'Keefe Building, 2 nd Floor. Attendees will be provided with all the information necessary to compete for scholarships and hear first-hand accounts from Air Force Academy and ROTC cadets. This is a great forum for students and parents to learn more about the great scholarship opportunities that are available through the Air Force. See Mrs. Allen in the counselors' office if you have any questions.


**All Students: Gordon Central High School will be hosting a PROBE (College Fair) on Thursday, November 4 th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on their campus.


**Calhoun High School is excited to announce that we have been selected to host Georgia Apply to College Day on our campus on Monday, November 8, 2010, from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. On this day, all seniors will be scheduled to come to the computer labs to apply to the technical college, 2 year college, or 4 year college of their choice. We will have representatives from the University System of Georgia, Chattahoochee Technical College, Georgia Northwestern Technical College, Georgia Highlands College, and Dalton State College available to assist students in this process. We hope to have 100 % of our seniors apply to a post-secondary institution on this day!Dalton State College will be waiving their application fee for students who apply on this day to their college. To be able to take advantage of this, students cannot start their online application to Dalton State College prior to November 8 th. Please contact the counselors with any questions.


Any 9 th, 10 th, or 11 th grade student who took the PSAT in October will have received his/her score report and test booklet by Friday, December 10, 2010. Instructions for interpreting scores were included. This information was given to students by their English teacher. Please check with your student about his/her scores. Feel free to contact a counselor at 706-629-7400 if you have any questions/concerns.


**This is a reminder that Dalton State College will be hosting its annual Georgia Tech/Dalton State Engineering Transfer Banquet on Tuesday, November 16 th at 6:00 p.m. in the upper level of Dalton State's Pope Student Center. To attend, students must register atwww.daltonstate.edu/retp. The Regents Engineering Transfer Program allows students who want to earn an engineering degree from Georgia Tech to attend Dalton State College for the first two years and take classes from Georgia Tech instructors before transferring to the Georgia Tech campus for the junior and senior year.

Any student interested in attending Dalton State College is invited to attend their Fall Open House on Saturday, November 6 th. Students must RSVP atwww.daltonstate.edu/regist/openhouse.php. Open House will run from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

University of Georgia

  • Early Action Deadline - October 15 (notification by mid-December)
  • Foundation Fellowship Application – November 15
  • Regular Decision Application – January 15

The counselors have to do an online evaluation.  In order to complete the evaluation, we need a resume listing all activities you have been involved with since 9th grade.  Please allow several days for this evaluation to be completed. 

Georgia Tech

  •  Early Action Deadline – October 1 (notification by mid-November)
  • President’s Scholarship Program Deadline – November 1
  •  Regular Decision Deadline – January 15

You will need a copy of your transcript in order to complete both applications.  You may stop by the counselors’ office anytime to pick up a copy of your transcript.
