Greetings! My name is Derrick Broom and I am looking forward to another exciting school year. This is my sixth year teaching special education, second in the Calhoun City District. I am also the head boy’s basketball coach, and I am entering my second season with the yellow jackets. I graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a special education teaching degree in 2006. I recently received my masters in learning disabilities from Capella University. I have always enjoyed working with students with learning disabilities. I knew I wanted to be a teacher when I was a Junior in high school. Working with the severe and profound students in high school, I knew I wanted to help students achieve there goals and prepare them for life after high school. I am married to my wonderful wife, Sara, and we have a son named Tate. I enjoy the outdoors, fishing, and spending time with my family. I enjoy working with the students and seeing them grow as individuals, and I thank you parents for everything you do for them.
