Greetings! My name is Ms. Lori Fisher. I have the distinct pleasure of serving as your child’s Healthcare Science teacher this school year. The 2011-2012 school year begins my third year of teaching At Calhoun High School. I am also the advisor for the
Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) organization. I attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where I received my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). I have many years of experience as a registered nurse (RN). I have worked in Mental Health, Burn Unit, Labor and Delivery, Intensive Care, Hospital Education, Home Health and Radiology (Stress Testing). I am an American Heart Association CPR Instructor. I completed my teaching certification in 2011 from the University of Georgia.
I am divorced and have two wonderful boys, Conner (13) and Andrew (11). They attend Calhoun Middle School. I have one dog, a Rottweiler, and one cat.
I enjoy spending time with my children, family and pets, listening to music, dancing and relaxing. I attend Calhoun First Presbyterian Church.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), “Employment in the (healthcare) industry had risen by an average of 24,000 per month over the prior 12 months” in 2010. The BLS also projected in December 2009 “that more than 581,500 new RN positions will be created through 2018, which would increase the size of the RN workforce by 22%. Employment of RNs is expected to grow much faster than the average when compared to all other professions.” My goal is to provide students with the tools, education, and experiences needed to make an informed decision about a future career in healthcare. Hopefully, their time in my classroom will enhance their college experience. I love nursing and hope to instill that passion to students who are interested in the field of healthcare.
