Tammy Griffith began her teaching career teaching high school mathematics. She has taught virtually every high school math class in grades 9-12 and every level from remedial through gifted and advanced. While teaching for 18 years, she was awarded honors including Teacher of the Year, STAR Teacher, GCTM Round Table, and the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. To support the school program, she coached cheerleading, academic, and debate teams and sponsored the yearbook program. While teaching, Mrs. Griffith developed a passion for curriculum and instruction and was asked to move into an assistant principal position at Adairsville High School. She remained an AP for four years and then was asked to move into the principal position at AHS; the school was named a Platinum School by the Governors’ Office of Student Achievement two of the three years she was principal.
Mrs. Griffith then moved to Calhoun City Schools to pursue an AP position at Calhoun Primary School. The jump from high school to primary school was a big one, but it was one that she embraced and really enjoyed. She spent the last two years working at Calhoun Elementary School as AP; both of those schools have also been named a Platinum School. Entering her 30th year in education, she is excited to pursue the opportunity that being the principal of CES presents. She worked very closely with Mr. Roach, the outgoing principal, and she looks forward to advancing his good works.
Outside of school, Mrs. Griffith is married to Troy Griffith, and they have two children, Tripp and Traci. Tripp, a Georgia Tech graduate, is an engineer working at a supply chain management firm in Atlanta, and Traci, a West Georgia graduate, hopes to secure an elementary school teaching position for this fall. They have two miniature dachshunds, Copper and Frankie. The Griffiths are members of the Pine Log United Methodist Church. Mrs. Griffith is a member of the Optimist Club of Gordon County and the Alpha Delta Kappa teacher sorority, and she is a 2011 graduate of the Gordon County Leadership program.
