Meet Mrs. Holden
Welcome to first grade!  I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year.   I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you.  My name is Lisa Holden  and I am honored to be your first grade teacher.   I have lived in Calhoun all my life and actually attended Calhoun City Schools.  I graduated from Calhoun High School in 1983.  I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education from West Georgia College in 1987.  I received my Masters of Education Degree in Early Childhood Education from West Georgia College in 1993.  I received my Educational Specialist Degree in Teaching and Learning from Piedmont College in 2010.  I began my teaching career at Eastside Primary School in 1987.  I have taught kindergarten, first grade, and EIP for grades K-2.  This is my 18th year as a teacher with Calhoun City Schools.  I am married to Rickey Holden and I have two children Ella and Will.  Ella is a 9th grader at CHS and Will is a 4th grader at CES.  I am a lifelong Calhoun Yellow Jacket and a huge Georgia Bulldog fan!  I love spending time with family and friends,  reading, and playing piano.  First grade is full of fun and challenging opportunities to learn and grow, and I believe that communication is the key to success.  I encourage you to contact me at any time if you should have questions or concerns.  I am looking forward to an exciting and rewarding school year ahead with you and your child!

Class Introduction
First grade is a challenging grade and a big transition for the former kindergarten students. In first grade, we teach units based on the Georgia Performance Standards. We teach reading, grammar, writing, and math units and embed social studies and science when possible. Your child will also continue reading flex like in kindergarten, so your child may be taught reading by another first grade teacher. These groups are flexible and based on your child’s needs. We will also continue with our intervention time. Again, your child may be taught by another teacher based on needs. These needs may require remediation or enrichment of specific skills. As I stated earlier, first grade is a challenging year, but we tend to see tremendous growth with our students.
