Kindergarten is a journey, not a race! Your child will have the entire year to master the standards assessed through GKIDS, which is an ongoing assessment. Georgia Performance Standards drive the instruction for kindergarten. You will be updated on your child’s progress through report cards every nine weeks. If your child needs help in a particular area, progress reports will be sent out mid-term. Students will be taught reading through flexible groups, so your child may go to another teacher for the subject. This is also true for intervention time. This makes learning more individualized and can be used for remediation or enrichment. Math and writing will be taught within the homeroom class. Science and social studies are embedded in the curriculum.
I love teaching kindergarten and I am excited to get to know your child! I believe that all students can learn and it is my job to help them reach their potential. This is going to be a fun and exciting year!
