Meet Mr. Rice
Hello everyone!  My name is Matt Rice and I want to welcome you to my website.  I hope you find it formative and very user friendly.  If I can be of any assistance please feel free to contact me.

This fall I will begin my first year teaching at Calhoun Middle School.  Before coming to CMS I spent 5 years teaching history at Sonoraville and Gordon Central High Schools.  I am a native of Calhoun and a graduate of Calhoun High School, so it gives me great pleasure to return home.

After high school I attended Georgia Southern University where I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History with a minor in French and a Master’s Degree in Secondary Social Science Education.  At Southern I also had the honor of meeting my wife of five years, Kate.  Together we have a two year old son named Sam.  Currently I am expanding my education by pursuing a Specialist Degree in Curriculum & Instruction from Lincoln Memorial University.

Aside from teaching I will also serve as the head boys soccer coach and the football kickers’ coach at Calhoun High School.  I look forward to working with the members of the Yellow Jacket Nation in a variety of capacities to help each one of them achieve their maximum potential.

This year I have the pleasure of teaching 7th grade social studies where we will explore the geography, cultures, governments, and economies of the nations of Africa and Asia.  By exploring these diverse groups of people we will be able to gain a greater understanding of the world we live in and simultaneously learn more about ourselves.
