Hello! My name is Diane Smith and I will be teaching Physical Education at Calhoun Middle School this year. The 2011-2012 school year will mark my 35th year in education, all of those serving as a Physical Education teacher at CMS. I am a proud graduate of Calhoun High School and was the first female athlete to receive an Athletic Scholarship from CHS. I earned my Bachelors Degree in Health and Physical Education from Berry College. I then continued my education by receiving a Masters Degree in Health and Physical Education from Jacksonville State University, and a Specialist Degree in Supervision and Administration from Lincoln Memorial University. In addition to my teaching duties, I also coach the JV and Varsity Girls Basketball Teams at Calhoun Middle School, and I am the Head Softball Coach at Calhoun High School. I also serve as the Athletic Director for Calhoun Middle School. I am married to Coach Jerry Smith (retired math teacher and football coach from CHS). I have two daughters, Jaime Ralston Garrett and Kayla Ralston. Jaime is the Media Specialist at Calhoun Primary and Calhoun Elementary, and serves as the JV Football Cheerleading Coach and Varsity Basketball Cheerleading Coach for CHS. Kayla is studying to be a Physical Education teacher at Kennesaw State University and is the JV Basketball Coach and Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach at CHS.
