Meet Ms. Doane

Hello.  My name is Michelle Doane.  It is a pleasure to serve your child here at CMS.  I love my job and am happy to have found this incredible community in which to work and raise my children.  I have been a teacher with CMS since 2000 and have been teaching since 1991.  I have two children who attend school at CHS and two dogs.  I enjoy reading, writing poetry and short stories, painting, exploring new music, hiking, taking photos, and traveling.  My family is working on seeing all 50 U.S. states before my youngest graduates.  We have fifteen states remaining.

My philosophies on teaching could be easily summarized.  Every child is an individual with unique strengths and weaknesses.  Effective teachers must like children.  It is the responsibility of the teacher to know the content and to design lessons and activities that are challenging and are as interesting as possible.  It is the child’s responsibility to put forth best effort.  Creativity and humor are essential to any classroom.  Open and frequent communication between parents and teachers is in the best interest of the child.

Class Introduction
6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Gifted ELA:  This class will focus on the Georgia Performance Standards!  English Language Arts standards for all three middle grade levels revolve around four areas;  listening/speaking/viewing,  reading,  writing, and conventions.  Virtually everything we do will tie in to those four main strands of learning.

Expectations:
Children in an honors class are expected to delve deeper into the curriculum than the average student.  Students will be expected to be avid readers.  An honors class is not about more work but rather about different work.  Children are expected to complete assignments in a timely manner and to put forth maximum effort.
