Meet Mrs. Trejo - Parent Involvement Coordinator
Greetings! I am Cecilia Trejo, and I have the honor and privilege of serving as your Parent Involvement Coordinator at Calhoun Middle School. I am looking forward to working with all families and our community to empower our students and motivate them to succeed. Parent involvement is vital for students to succeed both in and out of the classroom. When parents are involved in education, children do better in school and schools improve.

Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am originally from Homestead, Florida but moved to Georgia in 2005. I am married to my wonderful husband Rosendo, and we have four wonderful and blessed children two young men and twin young ladies who graduated from Gordon Central. My hobbies are music and dancing and enjoy spending time with my family.  I have worked in the school atmosphere for the past 18 years in which 12 years I worked in Florida in a Christian school as a Pre-School and Spanish Teacher. I worked for three years at CPS as an ELP Specialist and this is going to be my third year at Middle School as the Parent Involvement Coordinator. I also serve as the Lead Teacher for Club Xtreme an afterschool program for Latino Youth (operated by grant for at risk Latino students by the Council on Alcohol and Drugs).

Roles and Responsibilities
Help the school to develop a family-friendly school climate in cooperation with the principal, teachers, parent organization, and other staff.  Create a comfortable family resource room where families can meet, get to know each other, and discuss their interests and concerns. Stock the Parent Resource room with books, and learning materials that families can borrow.  Make sure to follow the school family involvement policy with input and approval from parents and teachers. (To satisfy the requirements of the school parent involvement policy under Title I of No Child Left Behind.   Along with our social worker I develop programs and activities designed to engage families in improving student achievement. Plan these in collaboration with an action team of families, teachers, parent organizations, business-community partners, and the principal. Help teachers/staff and families develop strong partnerships and enhance communication between parents/families and school staff.  Develop and implement effective family involvement strategies and activities to empower students and their families. Take part in opportunities for professional development. Participate in and support district activities and programs for families. Help to recruit partners to become part of the district’s family involvement program. Help communications with language barriers by providing translation during any type of meeting, phone call or communication between school, principal, teachers and staff.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me at anytime because I am here for you! Let’s work together to make this school year the BEST for all our students and families!
