Random thoughts

Everyone sounds great right now.  Well, not "right" now.  At school today.  Friday night should be awesome.

I hope everyone is working on the songs we'll be playing.  If you have been I imagine your parents and siblings are all about to scream.  <grin>

Ever wonder why we park on the driveway and drive on the parkway?

6th and 7th Grade Band

You are invited to play with the CHS Marching Yellow Jackets on Friday night October 20.  We want to have the largest band ever at a Calhoun game which will take all of you participating.  If everyone attends we will have around 450 band members that night!

When:  Report to the CHS band room at 6:30.  You are dismissed at half time, usually around 8:40.

Dress:  Calhoun colors.  We haven’t had time to order CMS band shirts for the 6th grade yet, so everyone is welcome to dress comfortably in their best black and gold.

Notes:  After the 6th and 7th graders are dismissed they are welcome to stay at the game or go home.  I will open the CHS and CMS band rooms for 20 minutes after the students are dismissed.  If you are going home please don’t leave anything in the CHS band room.  Both rooms will be unlocked again after the game.  While the students will get into the game for free families will need to purchase a ticket.  If you would like to purchase tickets prior to the game please contact the Calhoun High School office.  706.629.9213.  Tickets are $6.00 each.

Important dates
By Larry @ 5:38 PM :: 222 Views :: 3 Comments

CMS Band has a lot going on this fall.  Check these dates to see what you will be involved in.  The 8th grade has the most to do, so when you see all the football games don't panic if you are a 6th or 7th grader....

6th Graders:

August:

Tuesday 8/29 5:30 to 8:00

The Music Room from Rome, GA will be in our auditorium renting and selling instruments.  I doubt that they will bring the actual instruments.  Typically they sign the rental agreements and deliver the instruments later that week.  They will also be selling the book we use, Essential Elements 2000, and some other accessories and cleaning supplies.

September:

Tuesday 9/5

This is our first day with instruments for the 6th graders.  Please try to have an instrument by this date.

October:

Friday 10/13

The end of the first grading period.  Any student who has not obtained an instrument will be placed into another connections class after this day.  If you need extra time to obtain an instrument please contact me ASAP.

7th Graders:

August:

Chair test this Thursday and Friday.  Play the B-Flat scale and arpeggio from memory.  Drums play song 42. (I think...it is written on the board at school and I'm currently at home)

8th Graders:

Football Schedule

  http://www.gasports.com/?template=5&web=1&year=2006&sport=1&school=41

At this time I do not have a schedule that includes report times.  I only have the dates, and I doubt if this is all of them.  We usually have some pep rallies as we get closer to the playoffs that are called rather quickly.  I will get you those dates just as soon as I get them.  Please be patient with us as frequently we aren't given much notice about these things ourselves.

9/1  at Dalton

9/8  at Villa Rica   9/9 - Saturday  Cherokee Capital Fair Parade through Downtown Calhoun.  Time is TBA.

9/12  Performance at the Cherokee Capital Fair.  We will end practice early and perform at the fair.  CHS band members are admitted for free and are welcome to stick around after the performance and ride some rides.  (although each event may still cost....)

9/15  at Temple

9/22  Model at home.

9/23  Saturday - Band festival at Trion HS, Trion, GA.  This event will take most of the day.  Actual times will be announced later, but I imagine we will report to the Calhoun band room around 9:30 and return that afternoon around 5:00.

9/30  Saturday - Commerce at home.  Commerce HS is so far away we are allowing them to travel to Calhoun on Friday, 9/29 and stay the night prior to our game.  I will post the game time as soon as I have it.

10/6  Open date.  No game or other events scheduled for this weekend.  Have a great, well deserved weekend off.

10/13  Sonoraville at Calhoun

10/20  Adairsville

10/27  at Chattooga County.  Halloween show.  Students may dress up in costume.

11/3  at Dade County

11/10  LaFayette at Calhoun.  Senior night.

11/17, 11/24, 12/1, 12/8, and 12/15 are the dates for the playoffs.  We keep playing as long as we keep winning.  I realize 11/24 is the day after Thanksgiving and 12/15 is very close to Christmas vacation.  Please make every effort to be at these games.

We will also be participating in the CHS homecoming parade and the Calhoun Parade of Lights.  I don't have these dates yet.

CMS/CHS Holiday Concert -  Thursday 12/7 at 7:00 in the Calhoun auditorium.  Middle school students (grades 6 - 8) report to the auditorium at 6:30.  High school students report to the CHS band room at 6:30.

This post is probably about 98% accurate.  With football schedules you have to be flexible.  If a game gets rained out it is possible we might have to make it up on a Saturday.  Mr. Clark and I will try to communicate with your families as much as we can.  Please stay in touch with us as well.  There are many many students involved in the band and it is tough to get all the information to everyone.

Ciao, and thanks for reading!

First blog.
By Larry @ 10:17 PM :: 267 Views :: 13 Comments

OK.  My first blog.  Hmmmmm......

I hope everyone had a great summer.  I slaved away on Drake's new room and still didn't finish it.  Lots to do once school starts back

6th graders don't need a band instrument for awhile.  I will give out the exact date on the first day of school.  It is around the 1st of September.

7th graders will need their instruments the second day of school.

8th graders have practice after school on the first day, so bring your stuff.

Leave me some comments.

Brown.
