As the Principal of Calhoun Middle School, it is my responsibility to work as an instructional leader to carry out the mission of the school. The mission is to inspire all students to become life-long learners in the pursuit of excellence. I will work as a team member with all stakeholders to develop a plan of action utilizing best practices to achieve that success. I will develop a climate for sustained activity by establishing a cycle for inventing, testing, and evaluating new ideas. I will do my best to utilize the talents of the school community to promote a productive, efficient, and safe environment in which to learn. I will work to obtain the highest quality educators possible as well as to provide professional development and instructional practices that will enable the educators and students to grow. I will work to establish policies in collaboration with all stakeholders that would be applied in a fair and consistent manner, during the educational process. These policies will establish procedures for daily operations and provide a positive school climate in order to meet the needs of a diverse community in a global environment. I will work to utilize community resources to the fullest extent to provide opportunities for each student to develop his/her potential as a learner and a citizen. Each day we will take each student where he or she is and unleash the potential of that child to become an independent lifelong learner.
I appreciate the opportunity to serve as the Principal of Calhoun Middle School. I have worked as a teacher and an administrator for nineteen years at CMS. We have continually worked to improve each year by targeting areas of improvement in curriculum, instruction, and technology. The middle school is a great place to work and learn. The staff is very dedicated and caring. We will have a number of high quality educators join our staff this year that will help solidify a hard working, well trained group of teachers and support personnel. We have already been working to improve curriculum maps and units of study. Many teachers are finishing classes for gifted endorsements and advanced degrees. It will be an exciting year as we work together to reach our goals. I look forward to working with all stakeholders as we begin our journey through the middle school years.
With great appreciation,
Robert Orfield
