Calhoun Middle School held its first Technology Fair on May 9, 2007. This inaugural event kicked off what is to become an annual affair that's local competition will feed into a districk and state field. Sponsored by the CMS Better Seeker Technology Committee, this contest is designed to raise awareness and emphasize the importance of technology in Calhoun City Schools.
To kick off the Tech Fair, CMS conducted a logo contest in which students participated. Savannah McKinney was the winner, receiving an Ipod shuffle as the prize along with her logo printed on the Tech Fair t-shirt. The Tech Fair committee is very excited about the potential this contest holds and the opportunity for students to show off the skills they have developed in this field.
The fair included two categories (a field that will increase to eight next year): multimedia and digital video editing. Winners in the respective categories by grade level were: 1st place in 6th grade multimedia: Julia Ballew, 2nd place in 6th grade multimedia: Colt Chambers, 1st place in 7th/8th grade multimedia: Tyler Moyer, 2nd place in 7th/8th grade multimedia: Stephanie Hodnett, and 1st place in 7th/8th grade digital video: Mackenzie Kessler and Blaire Parlo. Tyler Moyer fininsed with the highest percentage in all categories and recieved an Ipod shuffle.
The juding panel included: Sylvia Brumbelow, Calhoun High School media specialist, Jason Brumbelow, owner of The Brumbelow Group, Jody Maffetone, Calhoun City Schools Technology Director, and Ryan Burney, Calhoun City Schools Technology.
Each catagory received ribbons for first and second place. The categories were judged on five criteria: originality, clarity, documentation, appropriateness, and design. While this year's competition was held only on a local level, all future competitions will be held with distrct and state level aspirations.
