Meet Mrs. Hartsfield
My name is Amy Hartsfield, and I am thrilled to have the honor to be your child’s teacher this year. I am a product of the Calhoun City System, and I’m proud to be a Yellow Jacket! Although this is my first year at Calhoun Primary, this is my seventh year teaching. After graduating with a degree in Early Childhood Education with an ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) endorsement from The University of West Georgia in May of 2005, I began my career teaching in the Gordon County School System, where I taught for six years.
I am married to my amazing husband, Walt, and we have two children, Hunter and Lydia, who we love very much. Hunter is 9 years old and in 4th grade at Calhoun Elementary. He enjoys playing sports, fishing, and drawing. Lydia is 4 years old, and she is in preschool. Our little princess loves Disney movies and playing dress up. She is adorable, but she’s definitely a wild child!
My favorite thing to do is sing. I have loved singing since I was a little girl, and now I enjoy singing at
my church
each week. I love spending time with family and friends, especially playing board games and card games. I also love Rock Band! Some of my family’s favorite TV shows include Wipeout, American Idol, Good Luck Charlie, and iCarly. During football season, on Friday nights, you will always find me in the stands cheering on the Yellow Jackets. On Saturdays, I am in front of the TV watching college football. I especially love the SEC and the Georgia Bulldogs in particular.

Class Introduction
I am so excited to be teaching 2nd grade at Calhoun Primary this year with my fantastic teammate,
Ashley Everett
. Students on our team will go to Mrs. Everett for Math instruction, and I will be teaching Reading as well at the Writer's Workshop. I look forward to meeting each child right where they are and passing on the passion that I have for reading and literature to every student with whom I meet. Throughout the year, we will explore various genres of literature, including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and plays. Students will enjoy gathering information about specific authors when we explore author studies in which we read a series of books by the same author and complete assignments over those selections. They will enjoy the transition that is experienced in moving up from 1st grade to 2nd. Many of them are no longer learning to read; they are now reading to learn.
