Meet Mrs. Goodwin
Welcome to Kindergarten!!!  My name is Wendi Goodwin.  I have the pleasure of being your child’s kindergarten teacher. I would like to share some things about myself with you. I am married to Darryl Goodwin and have three boys. Joshua is a 2005 Calhoun High School graduate and a 2009 UGA graduate. GO DAWGS! Corey graduated from GCHS in 2009 and Logan is a 4th grader at CES.  This year I was also blessed with a beautiful granddaughter Alleria.

I began my career as an English language teacher in Tokyo Japan during my husbands tour of duty. After returning to Georgia I taught 1st and fourth grade with Bartow County before I found my wonderful home here in Calhoun. I spent 10 years with Calhoun City Pre-K as the Orange Tiger Room teacher. I have been here at CPS with kindergarten for 3 years. I truly enjoy teaching kindergarten students. It is a privilege to help students learn to read and write for the first time.  Please work with me to challenge, encourage, and motivate your child to do his or her best this school year.  I also will try my best to ensure your child has a safe and nurturing learning environment. Thank you for sharing your child with me this year!

Communication between families and the teacher is vital to your child’s education and progress. Should you have any questions or concerns, or information for me, you may send notes in the daily folder or contact me by email or telephone.

Class Introduction
Kindergarten is a journey, not a race!  Your child will have the entire year to master the standards assessed through GKIDS, which is an ongoing assessment. Georgia Performance Standards drive the instruction for kindergarten.  You will be updated on your child’s progress through report cards every nine weeks. If your child needs help in a particular area, progress reports will be sent out mid-term. Students will be taught reading through flexible groups, so your child may go to another teacher for the subject. This is also true for intervention time. This makes learning more individualized and can be used for remediation or enrichment. Math and writing will be taught within the homeroom class. Science and social studies are embedded in the curriculum.
