The 2008-2009 Accelerated Reader Kick-Off was held Friday, August 29, with the theme of "Books Rock!" It was celebrated with the staff and students dressing in 50s attire.

Then on Friday, September 12, the Rockin' Readettes visited Calhoun Primary School to kick-off the PTO fundraiser, the "Rockin' Read-a-Thon." The little-known but rising-star group performed for the students with the assistance of the Calhoun High School cheerleaders and the Calhoun High School Drum Line.
