My name is Peter Coombe and I am proud to serve as the School Counselor at Calhoun Middle School. I began my career in education as a High School French Teacher. I taught at Gordon Central High School for 6 years and am thankful for the experience of working with a wide array of students with varied abilities. I sponsored organizations ranging from Pep Club to Student Government, and believe strongly that a well rounded educator will invest their time in multiple areas within a school setting. While teaching, I observed the many social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students and decided the best way to address these was to obtain my certification as a School Counselor.
At the conclusion of my 6th year as a classroom teacher, I was offered the position of School Counselor at the newly constructed Sonoraville Elementary School. The move from high school to elementary school was a big one, but one that I whole-heartedly embraced. I spent two years establishing programs at SES that continue to this day. I was honored for building a premier character education program which was recognized as one of the top programs of it's kind in the nation. Through this program, SES was also named a School of Excellence and awarded a national grant. I am excited to bring the skills I have attained throughout my career to the Calhoun City School System. I believe that each student has the right to an education free of social, emotional, and behavioral barriers, and I believe it is my reponsibility to help them reach their full potential.
I also have the distinct pleasure of serving Calhoun City Schools at the system level as the Director of Communications. It is in this role that I facilitate all public relations, produce the system website, coordinate staff communications, and convey pertinent information through various forms of media.
When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my beautiful wife, Natalie, who serves as a special education teacher at CES. We have a baby girl named Violet who was born on June 12, 2012. I serve as a member of the Optimist Club of Gordon County, and as the Chair of the Drugs Don't Work committee established by the Chamber of Commerce. My interests include, playing tennis, running, spending time with friends and family, and traveling.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns regarding the education of your child. I strive to serve students, parents, and teachers to my fullest potential.
