Aaaaarrrrggggh! its Accelerated Reader time

The Accelerated Reader program is an exciting and innovative reading program that encourages students to read quality literature.  Each year the AR program utilizes a theme, offers rewards and incentives, and recognizes students who excel in the program.  Our theme this year is, "Ahoy, Matey!  Come aboard the pirate ship where books are treasures waiting to be discovered."  On Friday, August 31, students at both CPS and CES were invited to dress up in their best pirate costume to help kick off the AR program for the 2007-2008 school year. Best dressed winners from each class got to pick out a book as their prize "treasure".

Assistant Principal, Tammy Griffith said "It is wonderful to see the children’s enthusiasm for choosing a book as their reward." Media specialist, Jamie Ralston spent the rest of the day, reading pirate stories to different classes. Here is Mrs. Griffith with some "dangerous" first grade pirates.
