Calhoun cheerleaders celebrate their victory in Columbis (Special)
COLUMBUS — The Calhoun High Competition Cheerleaders are now back-to-back state champions.

The competition cheerleaders won their second state championship in a row on Saturday at the Columbus Civic Center in Columbus.

The girls had traveled to Columbus on Thursday to compete in Sectionals the following day to requalify for Finals and received first place.

On Saturday, CHS was the 38th team to perform for the day, and as they waited the anticipation increased. During the performance the judges were smiling back at the team to show their excitement.

The Calhoun supporters completely ruled the stands and were yelling the whole time. Teachers, students, and parents all came to support the girls in Columbus.

The Calhoun cheerleaders walked off the floor pleased with their performance and were content with any outcome awaiting them.

The Calhoun cheerleaders include Caitlyn Bohannon, Mallory Brown, Andrea Brzozoski, Stephanie Cumbey, Foshae Davis, Mallory Davison, Morgan Diamond, Brooke Dixon, Brea Fowler, Hailey Green, Mackenzie Kessler, Tess Medders, Meghan McCormick, Myra McDonald, Kacee McEntyre, Mari Plunkett, Hannah Quist, Alyssa Reeves, Grace Roberts and Kassie West. Ginger Reeves is the squad’s coach.

The standings show the 7AA region is extremely competitive because Calhoun, Pepperell and Coosa all placed in the top three at State, which is very rare. Calhoun won first place with 245 points, Pepperell finished second with 237 points and Coosa placed third with 228 points.
