School Board United in Opposition to "GREAT Plan"

Be it resolved that we, The Calhoun City Board of Education urge the representatives of Calhoun and Gordon County to the state legislature, John Meadows, Don Thomas, Tom Graves and Preston Smith to oppose the GREAT Tax plan that has been proposed by Rep Richardson. We feel the needs of our community will be better served by local taxation and representation than by a state bureaucracy. Be it further resolved that we feel the local voice in local government could be forever lost should this legislation be passed and implemented.
Calhoun City Schools urges the General Assembly to recognize the impact of proposed tax legislation on the state and local revenue base which may undermine state government services and public education. Specifically, the General Assembly is urged to defeat any resolution to eliminate local ad valorem property taxes for education and replace them with a sales and use tax.
