Calhoun Elementary School Welcomes Jason Hawkins as the New Assistant Principal
Mr. Hawkins is presently serving as a fourth grade teacher at Calhoun Elementary School. He is a 1991 graduate of Calhoun High School and has been employed by Calhoun City Schools since 1993. As a teacher leader for Calhoun City Schools, Mr. Hawkins has demonstrated exemplary performance in the eight roles of leadership.
Curriculum, Assessment, and Instruction Leader- As a curriculum, assessment, and instruction leader Mr. Hawkins has participated in faculty book studies and assessment for learning training. He has also attended GPS standards training and helped implement the new standards as a classroom teacher. He served on the CES Reading / Direct Instruction Task Force. He has been involved in the inclusion classroom training, implementation and redelivery and has shared best practices on co-teaching at the Calhoun City Schools' Mini-Conference.
Data Analysis Leader- As a data analysis leader Mr. Hawkins has served on the school's Better Seeker Team. He has utilized data to conduct action research on English Language Learners' performance and their attendance at a supplemental tutoring program. He has also utilized data to chart student progress in each content area.
Performance leader- As a performance leader Mr. Hawkins has been trained in co-teaching and has used his skills to train other educators in inclusion /co-teaching best practices.
Operations Leader- As an operations leader Mr. Hawkins has served on numerous school and system committees to effectively and efficiently improve school operations such as safety and discipline. He has served as a presenter on ITBS testing security/regulations and information. He has also participated in system wide trainings geared to the improvement of scheduling practices, maximizing QBE and FTE resources and preparing school budgets.
Relationship Development Leader- As a relationship development leader Mr. Hawkins has served on numerous school, system, community and state wide committees. He recently served on State School Superintendent Kathy Cox's Teacher Advisory Panel. He has served on the Assistant Superintendent Search Committee, Better Seeker Team, Partners in Education Committee, Community Engagement Team, SACS Quality Assurance Review Team. As a community leader, he has served as Team Captain for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, United Way Allocation Panel, Sunday School Teacher, Friends of Gordon County Library Summer Reader, DARE Sponsor, FCA sponsor and is the public address announcer at Calhoun High School's baseball games. Mr. Hawkins was selected by his peers as the 2007 Teacher of the Year.
Change Leader- As a change leader Mr. Hawkins has been on the school Better Seeker Team. This team's goal is to seek better ways for school improvement to move from "good to great." He has served as a change agent for many school and system initiatives as a classroom teacher.
Learning and Performance Development Leader- As a learning and performance development leader, he has demonstrated the ability to apply proven, systematic processes for improvement through analyzing human performance, planning for improvement, designing, developing and supporting implementation of solutions to close performance gaps. Mr. Hawkins has served as a model classroom instructor for Shurley English and trained other teachers in the Shurley English method. He was a member of the first cohort of Calhoun City Schools Leadership Academy for Students' Success and has served on the school's leadership team assisting with 5 X 5 Walk Throughs and other leadership tasks.
Process Improvement Leader- As Co-Director of Calhoun Elementary School's Saturday School Program, Mr. Hawkins has improved the processes for identification of targeted students. He has also helped improved school schedules and helped plan, organize and staff the Great Event. He has helped organize and plan the system recruitment fair as well as other school and system-wide events. He has also served on the SACS CASI review team and has developed action plans designed to improve student achievement.
Calhoun Middle School Welcomes Ray Reece as the New Assistant Principal
Mr. Reece is presently serving as a math teacher at Calhoun High School. He has worked in several areas of the education field, having taught at the elementary and high school level, in regular and special education. He is a 1990 graduate of Calhoun High School. As a leader in the education field, Mr. Reece has demonstrated exemplary performance in the eight roles of leadership.
Curriculum, Assessment, and Instruction Leader- As a curriculum, assessment, and instruction leader Mr. Reece has participated in textbook adoption aligning textbooks with state standards multiple times. He has also participated in a co-teaching academy to improve development of assessment and instruction techniques so standards can be covered in a more streamlined approach so the best learning can take place.
Data Analysis Leader- As a data analysis leader Mr. Reece has developed and participated in benchmark testing for identification of a target group of juniors to prepare the group for the Georgia High School Graduation Tests at Calhoun and Gordon Central High School. He has also been trained in Testgate data analysis programs for use in pre-testing, post-testing, and benchmark testing and for identification of students that require additional instruction.
Performance leader- As a performance leader Mr. Reece has used Testgate to plan, measure, monitor, and organize lessons so students can best learn standards. Mr. Reece has also participated in ropes course certification to give at risk students successful experiences and to teach students the confidence necessary to perform at higher levels.
Operations Leader- As an operations leader Mr. Reece has been on the rules and policy committee at Calhoun High School. This committee is responsible for evaluating the current rules and policies at Calhoun High School and adding and rewriting them so the school operates more efficiently and successfully.
Relationship Development Leader- As a relationship development leader Mr. Reece has used resources in the community to develop and to get national sponsorship for a class to be taught for at risk students to improve attendance, graduation rates, and grade point averages. Mr. Reece has also worked with new teachers on classroom management, discipline, and parent communication to aid in increased student learning and effectiveness in the classroom. Mr. Reece has also coached for 10 years. In those ten years he has coached football, basketball, and baseball. Six of those years were served as head baseball coach.
Change Leader- As a change leader Mr. Reece has been on school rules and policies committees that set standards for students that seek early enrollment into post secondary education. Mr. Reece has also revised classes to better serve students needs to pass Georgia High School Graduation Tests and to improve graduation rates to achieve AYP. Mr. Reece has also helped change the review process for target group test takers for success in all areas of mathematics testing.
Learning and Performance Development Leader- As a learning and performance development leader Mr. Reece has worked closely with the special education department to analyze the performance of students and to develop plans to improve students' behavior, achievement, and performance inside and outside the classroom. Mr. Reece has also collaborated with co-teachers to establish roles in the classroom for teaching, discipline, and student success.
Process Improvement Leader- As a co-chair on the policies and rules committee, Mr. Reece has engaged other faculty members in the goals and processes of the committee and developed new processes for school improvement. Mr. Reece has helped create the processes for accepting out of district students, dual enrollment in post secondary school, and early graduation while serving as a co-chair on the committee. Mr. Reece has also served on multiple school improvement teams to identify areas of need and change in the school.
