The sale held on November 12th brought in over $2500. This money directly benefits women in Uganda, who make beautiful beaded products to sell as a means to escape poverty. According to Kathy Sproull, IB coordinator, $2500 represents roughly two years of income for a typical beadmaker in Uganda and is about three to four times the money they would be able to make if something like this was not available to them Those that took part in the sale had fun trying on the jewelry and making gift selections. They also learned about the significance of the sale. These sales are about Eradicating Poverty One Bead at a Time®. Items included beaded earrings, bracelets, necklaces, bead kits, note cards and even native music cd's.
WDNN television in Dalton visited and filmed a news story on the sale and interviewed several of the IB students. The students worked dilligently in all aspects of the project, from promoting the sale, to sales and maintaining inventory records. To find out more about the Bead for Life story: read more
