CHS Beta Club hosts Leadership Camp at CPS

Calhoun High School Beta Club hosted a Leadership Camp during the October acceleration days, for Calhoun Primary School students. Campers were chosen by their teachers based on leadership and character. These students were involved in numerous enrichment activities to strengthen their leadership skills and to enjoy learning in a fun-filled, student-lead, Beta environment. All of the activities revolved around the following character builders: MATURITY, ENDURANCE, RESPECT, CREATIVITY, and KINDNESS.

The campers made "welcome" cards for people coming into port from different countries for the Seafarers Ministry in Melbourne, FL. They also made little animals out of sponges to put in the Beta boxes that will be sent to Samaritans’ Purse.

One of the events that the children liked the best was the Bear Hunt. Student campers went on a scavenger hunt to find the BETA BEAR. The Beta Bear stole their character builders, the leadership words they learned about that day. Beta Bear stole these words because he wanted to be a leader, like the kids. Students were given clues to find the missing words.

The Beta members also picked four children each day to be CAMPERS OF THE DAY! This was definitely a great experience for all the students and Beta Club Members who took part in this event. Katherina Cordero and Kathleen Edwards CHS Beta Club members were creators of the camp and its activities. All the Beta members that took part were fueled by this events success and are looking forward to repeating this event for the February acceleration days.

AND REMEMBER: IF YOU SEE THE BETA BEAR, DON’T FORGET TO TELL HIM THAT "EVERYBODY CAN BE A LEADER"!!!
