CMS winners listed

Calhoun Middle Schools' Annual Spelling Bee took place in the school's media center on Friday, January 23, 2009. The entire school participated in a written spelling bee on January 16th. The top winners from the school were then asked to participate in an oral competition. Eighteen students from 6th, 7th, and 8th grades competed as well as the 2 winners of the Calhoun Elementary School's spelling bee. The competition was strong this year with Lattie Reddoch, an eighth grade student, winning and Hunter Moss, a sixth grade student, coming in second. Finalists were:  Janelle Williams, Zach McKenzie, Hunter Moss, Lynette Naranjo, Taylor Langston, Daniel Montenegro, Vilma Jimenez, Brittany Fite, Adrian Phillip Torres, Logan Walraven, Wil Ahrens, Taylor Gilbert, Erica Cleary, Lattie Reddoch, Callen Knight, Julio Castillo, Quentin Maddox, Michael McCanless and Makenna Bagwell

National Georgraphy Bee: Lattie Reddoch, an 8th grade student at Calhoun Middle School won the school-level competition of the National Geography Bee on January 21, 2009 and a chance at a $25,000 college scholarship. Lattie's written test will be scored and if she is among the top 100 in the state, she will be eligible to compete in the state Bee April 3, 2009.

Tech Fair results: The 3rd Annual Technology Fair was a great success! Sponsored by the CMS Better Seeker Technology Committee, this contest is designed to raise awareness and emphasize the importance of technology in Calhoun City Schools. To kick off the Tech Fair, CMS conducted a logo contest in which students participated. Johnathon Vargas was the winner.  Johnathan received an Ipod shuffle as the prize and his winning logo was printed on the Tech Fair t-shirts. The Tech Fair committee is very excited about the potential this contest holds and the opportunity for students to show off the skills they have developed in this field. The projects were judged on five criteria: originality, clarity, documentation, appropriateness, and design. Winners were:   6th Grade Non-Animated Graphic Design: 1st: place: Unique Sardeneta with "Art Can Be Technology"; 7th and 8th Grade Case Modification: 1st place: Wil Ahrens with "Auburn Tigers" 2nd place: Team of Deanne Gordon and Erica Marshall with "Computer Man"; 7th and 8th Grade Digital Video: 1st place: Hannah Knight with "Music in Me" 2nd place: Team of Lattie Reddoch and Celeste Holbrook with "Calhoun Gordon Co.
