The System Teachers of the Year were recognized at the March Gordon County Chamber Booster Breakfast which highlighted educational opportunities in Calhoun and Gordon County (l-r) Calhoun City Schools' Superintendent, Dr. Michele Taylor; CHS Principal, Wanda Westmoreland; Jackie Palazollo; Justin Timms; Gordon County School Superintendent, Dr. Bill McCown, , and Gordon Central Principal, Betty Holland. Justin Timms is a life-long resident of Gordon County and a product of the Gordon County School System. He is a 2000 graduate of Gordon Central High School. In 2004, he received a Bachelors of Science in History and Political Science from Shorter College. Additionally, he holds a Masters of Educational Leadership from Kennesaw State University and is currently pursuing an Education Specialist degree in leadership at Georgia College and State University. This is Justin's fifth year teaching social studies and as head varsity soccer coach at Gordon Central. At Gordon Central he is a co-sponsor of FCA, serves on the testing committee, school council, is a leader on the High School Redesign team, and represents the teachers of Gordon Central on the Superintendent's advisory focus group. He is also very active in the community. Justin is a member of Newtown Baptist Church where he serves as assistant Sunday school director and teaches in the AWANA program. Justin also serves on the Board of Directors of the Gordon County Voluntary Action Center. Jackie Palazzolo, CHS Teacher, has been named the 2010 System Teacher of the Year for Calhoun City Schools. Mrs. Palazzolo received her Bachelors Degree from Georgia State University and her Masters degree in secondary education from Berry College. She teaches Spanish at CHS and has her Gifted and Advanced Placement certifications. She has been chosen as STAR teacher and Who's Who Among America's Secondary Teachers twice. Jackie has served on several SACS review teams, graduated from Calhoun's Leadership Academy for Students Success and serves on numerous school committees and community organizations. Jackie has coached girls soccer and cheerleading. She has served as a United Way school representative and has served on the United Way Allocation Committee. She is a member of the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) and is presently serving as the President of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary teachers' sorority. Jackie is married to Marcus Palazzolo, also a teacher at Calhoun High School. They have two daughters Julia, a third grader at Calhoun Elementary School and Jenna, a kindergartener at Calhoun Primary School.
