Calhoun High School is very honored to learn that Coach Ruben Maldonado has been selected by www.divarsity.com and the Georgia Soccer Coaches Association as the A/AA High School Boys Coach of the Year for the STATE OF GEORGIA. Several teachers, fans and administrators at CHS flooded the diversity.com selection committee with testimonials about Ruben’s leadership in this very trying year and the team’s amazing entry into the state final four for the first time ever. In addition to honoring Coach Maldonado, the committee has also chosen Cameron Budzius to play forward for the A-AA-AAA all star team that will meet the AAAA-AAAAA All Stars in a showcase event on May 22. The girls all star game begins at 4 p.m. and the boys will begin at 6 p.m. The coach of the year winners will be recognized during the halftime of the games featuring their particular coaching area. Thus, CHS and Ruben should be recognized around 7 p.m. at the Lassiter High School stadium in Marietta.
