The Board of Education for Calhoun City Schools will meet the fourth Monday of each month (*except when the school calendar calls for a school holiday and /or a joint meeting of the Board of Education and the Calhoun City Council is planned for the purpose of adopting the annual operating budget following guidelines prescribed in the City Charter) at 6:00 p.m. at the Central Office located at 334 South Wall Street.

A work session will be held on the same scheduled meeting day and location at noon.
The Calhoun City Schools’ Board of Education welcomes the public to its open meetings. The Board of Education wishes to hear any interested citizen and/or employee of the school district.
Individuals desiring to appear before the Board must first complete a sign-in sheet which shall be available thirty (30) minutes prior to the start of the meeting. Any person concerned with an administrative question should have exhausted all administrative channels before presenting to the Superintendent and/or Board. The individual should provide information showing that they have followed the proper chain of command. The presentation should be as brief as possible, yet include all information considered important by the speaker. Unless an extension of time is granted, each speaker shall not exceed three (3) minutes. If one (1) spokesman has presented a matter it is not necessary for others to repeat the same ideas. Others speaking on the same subject shall be limited to three (3) additional speakers. There shall be no more than (4) individuals speaking on the same subject. Remarks shall end when the speaker’s allotted time has expired.
Items which are excluded from the Open Meetings Act will not be discussed during the session. (This includes land, legal reference, individual student discipline cases and personnel items). A copy of the Compliments, Concerns, & Constructive Feedback protocol is available on the website for those who wish to have a discussion regarding concerns. Note: Board members will not take action during a Board meeting following public participation.

Meet our Board of Education
Rhoda Washington, Chair
Rhoda serves on several boards including AdventHealth Hospital Foundation Board, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Heating Energy Assistance Team (HEAT). Rhoda is the SE Territory Manager for AIG, HVAC Warranty Division, offering extended labor warranty related to the heating and air condition industry. Rhoda was a participant in the 2013 Leadership Calhoun / Gordon County class. She and her husband, Bruce, have a daughter Mackenzie, a 2007 Calhoun High School graduate, and a 2011 graduate of the University of Georgia. Mackenzie is married to Joseph Crist, and they have two children, Emerson and Jackson. Rhoda and Bruce attend Rock Bridge Church in Calhoun.
Andy Baxter, Vice Chair
Andy is a 1998 graduate of Calhoun High School where he was active in all the arts programs: fine, visual and the performing arts. He served as band president and was a member of the Drama Club and International Thespian Society. He also earned a National Art Award. He has continued his love of the arts by building a successful photography business. In 2011, he partnered with friend Hanna Dean to open Baxter Dean Studio in the heart of downtown Calhoun. Together, the duo has participated in several community events, and they have worked to make Baxter/Dean a well-known establishment in northwest GA.
Baxter is a former member of Calhoun’s GEM Theatre Board of Directors. He presently serves on the Downtown Development Authority, the Calhoun-Gordon Literacy Council, the Business Engagement Committee with Gordon County’s Chamber of Commerce and chairs Dancing with the Stars Calhoun. Andy has a heart for giving and actively conducts several fundraising events annually to support local charities. He says that it’s his way of giving back to the community that has given so much to him. Likewise, he has volunteered his time, talents and energy to give back to Calhoun City Schools by providing quality photographs, signage, and other art forms for the website and communication efforts.
Baxter is the son of Brian and Vicki Baxter and has three brothers: Eric, Casey and Corey. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Brooke, and they have two children: Luca and Rocco, who both attend Calhoun City Schools.
Becky Gilbert George, Secretary
Becky Gilbert-George currently serves as the secretary for Calhoun City Schools' Board of Education. Becky is married to Ian Johns and they have 5 children: Jana, Jaide, Anna, Jace and Blair. Becky graduated from Calhoun High School in 1993 and went on to play basketball at Reinhardt College before graduating from Kennesaw State University. She has been employed by IBM for the last 24 years in sales, marketing and management. She is very active member of our community and spends over 150 hours volunteering for Calhoun Schools each year. She has been involved in both volunteer and appointed roles at Calhoun Schools for over 14 years. Some of these roles include: PTO president at CPS, fund-raising chair at CPS and pre-K, a member of the PTO board at CES, and she has served as the Calhoun Tip Off and Volleyball Club President. She has also been a member of the ESPLOST campaign committee for two terms where she worked with both city and county school leaders to educate the public on the need for the continuation of the penny sales tax. The passing of this optional sales tax helped Calhoun City Schools build state-of-the-art facilities.
Eddie Reeves, Board Member
Eddie Reeves is proud to serve on the Calhoun City Schools' Board of Education. He served as Board Chair from 2014-2021. He and his wife Stephanie have two children: Bailey and Rucker. Bailey is a 2012 graduate of Calhoun High School and Rucker is a 2019 graduate of Calhoun High School and currently attends the University of Georgia.
Eddie works with Starr-Mathews Agency as the Human Resource and Benefits Practice Leader. He is the past chairman of the Gordon County Chamber of Commerce and a graduate of Leadership Calhoun / Gordon County and Leadership Georgia. He also is the past President of the United Way of Calhoun/Gordon County. In addition to his service on the City School board, he has served as Chairman of the Junior Achievement of Northwest Georgia Board of Directors. Eddie and his family are members of Calhoun First Baptist Church.
Stephen King, Board Member
Michele Taylor, Superintendent
Michele Taylor presently serves as Superintendent for the Calhoun City School System. She has also been a student, teacher, media specialist, principal and assistant superintendent for the system. She is married to Joe Taylor and they have two children, Joseph and Anna, both graduates of Calhoun City Schools. They are also members of Calhoun First Baptist Church.
Dr. Taylor was selected as a finalist for the 2013 Georgia Superintendent of the Year Award and was named as Georgia's 2014 Superintendent of the Year. She was also named as a National Finalist for AASA's National Superintendent of the Year in 2014. She is the Chair for Leadership Calhoun / Gordon County and has served on the Gordon County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. She is a member of the Georgia School Superintendents' Association and the Calhoun Rotary Club. She has also served as President of the Gordon County Council for a Literate Community.
