ELA

Calhoun City Schools teachers and administrators take pride in the mission to inspire all students to become life-long learners in the pursuit of excellence.  One of the best ways to demonstrate our belief in this mission is to practice it ourselves.  We are models for our students and can be an example of how we are guided by this mission by continuing to learn and apply new strategies based on research which will continue our own journey to excellence in education.

Students in our English language arts classes are exposed to rich literary experiences aligned with the Georgia Standards of Excellence that promote proficiency in the following:

  • Foundational skills that result in reading for understanding

  • Having meaningful discussions around a text

  • Developing vocabulary and academic language

  • Communicating clearly and effectively in reading, writing, and speaking

  • Supporting claims with relevant reasoning and evidence from a text

  • Critical thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills
