Director of Online Learning and Student Information
Melanie Harwell is a lifelong resident of Gordon County. She has taught for 18 years. Twelve of those years were in 3rd grade, teaching both special education and gifted students. Melanie began her teaching career with Floyd County Schools, but in 2014 joined the Yellow Jacket family at Calhoun Elementary. Melanie left the classroom in 2017 to support teachers as the Instructional Technology Specialist for Calhoun City Schools. After four years of working closely with teachers supporting and utilizing technology in their classrooms, Melanie became the Director of Online Learning and Student Information where she continues to support all of Calhoun City Schools in the use of technology integration while also managing the Calhoun Online Learning Academy (COLA).
Melanie holds a Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education, a Masters Degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, and a Specialist Degree in Instructional Technology. Melanie also holds a gifted endorsement and is certified to teach special education.
Melanie has been married for 17 years. Her husband Bryan Harwell is a Calhoun City Schools alumni and their three children attend Calhoun City Schools. Their son Carson is in 10th grade and their twin daughters Caroline and Camille are in 7th grade. In her free time Mrs. Harwell loves to hike, kayak, paint, and play with her children and 1 year old golden retriever Charlie.
