The mission of the School Improvement department is to provide leadership and support in the areas of district and school improvement, to maximize student achievement.
Calhoun City Schools has a rich tradition of excellence through a process of Continuous Improvement Planning. One of the major elements of this process is the Plan, Do, Check, Act model. Stakeholder groups comprised of teachers, administrators, parents and business/community leaders meet regularly to review and revise system and school improvement plans. They are charged with examining data from all sub groups of the student body and to address the unique academic needs of students served through each federal program. School Improvement is a continuous process schools use to ensure that all students are achieving at high levels. All schools, in collaboration with families, students, and communities, can create better environments so that all students are successful. Continuous improvement of public schools is essential to providing increased student performance and quality results. Innovative, exemplary, and research based programs, coupled with staff development, focused and aligned resources, and public participation in planning are critical factors in improving schools.

Facilitate programs and services for the school system while working with school leadership teams in the effective implementation of a systematic approach to improving education and learning for all children.
To collaborate with school staff to assess school needs and services, instructional programs and strategies, and implement an effective curriculum and method for improving instruction to ensure that all students learn to their highest potential.
Provide leadership, direction, and assistance in all areas related to Equity. Assist schools with implementation of all equity recommendations with special emphasis on those related to student achievement.
Maintain a current knowledge base in several areas: curriculum and instruction, best practices in education, special education, strategies for school improvement, strategies for closing achievement gaps, effective management and communication strategies, all applicable Federal and State regulations, and all local Board policies and procedures.
Collaborate with District staff and others to develop, implement, and/or obtain and provide needed resources, services, and materials for the students.
Respond in a timely manner to parent and community concerns about school improvement programs and related issues upon request and/or as needed; facilitate group meetings as needed.
Attend and actively participate in the following meetings:, Instructional and Non-Instructional Directors’, School Councils, Board of Education, and others as needed.
Assist schools with the development and implementation of comprehensive improvement plans and professional growth plans.
Work on the development, implementation, and evaluation of the comprehensive district improvement plan, system equity plan and other school district projects and committees.
Review and analyze all student achievement data, and use the results to create reports and presentations as needed.
Coordinates the management and monitoring aspects of comprehensive school improvement planning.
Keeps abreast of current trends and practices in the content areas and in instructional leadership and disseminates professional information and materials to others.
Performs other duties as necessary for comprehensive school improvement.
