Director of Online Learning
Meet Mrs. Harwell
Hello! My name is Melanie Harwell and I am the Director of Online Learning and Student Information at Calhoun City Schools. We are very excited to be able to offer a customized online learning experience to students in Calhoun City Schools. The Calhoun Online Learning Academy was created in Fall 2013 and is presently housed at the COLA/STEMWorks building located on the campus of Calhoun High School. Students are admitted to the Calhoun Online Learning Academy through an application and interview process. After admission into the program, a customized schedule and learning experience is created for the student that will help the student maximize his/her learning while providing flexibility the student may need.
This is my 18th year in education. I am certified in Early Childhood Education, a masters degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment and a specialists degree in Instructional Technology. I taught 3rd grade for 12 years prior to moving into a district role as the Instructional Technology Specialist here at Calhoun City Schools where I provided professional development and support to staff across our district for 4 years. My husband and I have three children, Carson (15) and twin daughters Caroline and Camille (12).
I look forward to working with your child in Calhoun City Schools' COLA/STEMWorks facility. My primary focus is to provide support for online learners in a safe environment for your child to work. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have regarding the education of your child in Calhoun City Schools' Online Learning Academy.
