CES School Nurse
Hello everyone I'm Verneva Henson, nurse for Calhoun Elementary School. I have been a nurse for 20+
years, graduating from Dalton State College as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Attend HS at Gordon Central. I've worked in the Calhoun area throughout my career. Working on the Medical/Surgical Floor at Gordon Hospital (now Advent Health) to doctors offices as a Primary Care Nurse, Nursing Supervisor, Electronic Medical Record Supervisor/Trainer, and lastly at an Oncology Office as a Primary Care Nurse. I have enjoyed and learned many things through the different areas I have been able to work in. I'm am now using this knowledge to care for the Students and Staff at Calhoun Elementary School as their Nurse.
My husband Phillip and I have been married for 21 years. He is a local business owner and graduate of Red Bud HS, here in Gordon Co. Being a school nurse has given me the opportunity to spend more time with my son Seth, two daughters Mackenzie and Kodi. Seth is a graduate of Calhoun HS, Mackenzie is a freshman at CHS, and Kodi is a Cooper Fox in the Calhoun Pre-K program. Our girls are very involved in horseback riding and competing in rodeos. We spend most of our free time on the road traveling to competitions, our second home is our horse trailer.
Walking into a classroom or down the hall and having a student say "hey Nurse Vern" is a highlight of my day. Knowing the kids recognize me and feel safe talking to me makes my job easier to care for them.
