School Counseling

Calhoun Middle School's counseling program is designed to fully support CCS's mission and vision.  CMS recognizes the challenges that middle school students may face in their daily lives, and our counseling program is structured to provide the academic, emotional, and behavioral support that students need in order to be successful.  Understanding that the transition from elementary school to middle school and from middle school to high school can be very intimidating for both students and parents, we have designed several opportunities throughout the year to help parents and students successfully adjust.  The CMS counseling program offers extensive opportunities for all students to participate in career readiness activities and be exposed to the plethora of rigorous academic courses, Career, Technical, and Agricultural Educational classes, fine arts programs, and dual enrollment opportunities offered at Calhoun High School.  As a result, our students are well prepared, when as eighth graders, they will work with the CMS counselor to design their Individual Graduation Plan which is a working document that they will use to prepare for high school graduation and their post-secondary plans.

The CMS counseling department also offers individual counseling check-ins, small groups focused on topics such as anxiety, anger, study skills, and more, as well as whole-school social-emotional learning through daily advisement. We are excited to announce that we are using the Second Step Social Emotional Learning Curriculum for whole-school guidance this year. The CMS counseling program is committed to partnering with parents to ensure their student's success not only in school, but in life as well.  For this reason, all CCS counselors work together to provide opportunities for our parents to stay up-to-date on issues students face in today's world.  CCS also partners with Highland Rivers to offer mental health services for our students.  Students who are referred to Highland Rivers can receive their services during the school day if they so choose.

I have included a timeline for my counseling program for the 2024-2025 school year.  Please feel free to contact me anytime with questions or concerns.  I look forward to working with you and your student this year!

Sincerely,

Madison Green
