Title I / Parent Resources

TITLE I

Title I is the largest federal assistance program for our nation's schools.  The goal of Title I is to help every child get a high quality education.  Title I programs generally offer smaller classes, additional teachers and assistants, more training for school staff, extra time for instruction, a variety of teaching methods and materials, counseling and mentoring, etc.  Calhoun Primary is proud to be a Georgia Title I Distinguished School.

Title I serves children through Schoolwide and Targeted Assistance Programs.  Schools with 40% or more of children from low income families can develop school wide Title I programs to serve all students.  Schoolwide programs can combine Title I funds with federal, state and local funds to improve school programs. Calhoun Schools serves our students through schoolwide programs.

Student progress in Title I assisted schools is measured each year by administrators, teachers and parents to ensure all students are reaching goals set for improvement.  If certain goals for improvement are not met after a specified time, students in that school may be eligible for other Title I benefits such as tutoring or school choice.

Parents are an important part of our Title I program.  There are many ways for parents to be involved in determining program goals, planning and executing programs and evaluating programs.  Attending school events and information sessions, volunteering, joining parent's organizations, attending parent-teacher conferences and keeping open the line of communication between home and school are all measures that can be taken to support our schoolwide Title I program.

Parents Right to Know:

In compliance with the requirements of the Every Student Succeeds Act, parents may request the following information: 

1. Whether the student’s teacher— 

• has met State qualification and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction; 
• is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which State qualification or licensing criteria have been waived; and, 
• is teaching in the field of discipline of the certification of the teacher. 

2. Whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.
