School Safety: Ready Georgia Seal of Preparedness

Calhoun, GA – February 9, 2026 — Calhoun City Schools is pleased to announce that the Calhoun Early Learning Academy, Primary School, Elementary School, Middle School, and High School have once again been named Ready Georgia Seal of Preparedness schools, earning the distinction for the second consecutive year.

Calhoun City Schools is proud to be among a select group of recipients across the state, with all five district schools recognized for their commitment to comprehensive school safety and emergency preparedness.

The Ready Georgia Seal of Preparedness is awarded jointly by the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) and the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS). The designation recognizes schools that demonstrate exceptional effort in emergency planning, preparedness, and risk mitigation beyond standard requirements.

Dr. Peter Coombe, Assistant Superintendent of Operations for Calhoun City Schools, shared, “Alongside educating students, safety is the number one priority for schools in our community. Calhoun City Schools continues to maintain safe and secure facilities that the community can be proud of. We applaud the school administration, faculty, and staff for their commitment to school safety. We also would like to offer appreciation to our first responders, the Calhoun Police and Fire Departments, along with the Georgia Emergency Management Agency for their constant support”

State School Superintendent Richard Woods also offered congratulations, stating,“I extend my sincere congratulations to the Calhoun City School System and each of their schools on receiving the Ready Georgia Seal of Preparedness. This designation recognizes schools that lead the way in emergency preparedness through intentional planning and proactive action. It is an honor to acknowledge the commitment and diligence that made this achievement possible.”

The Ready Georgia Seal of Preparedness reflects a comprehensive emergency planning process that utilizes an “all hazards” approach, accounting for a broad range of potential threats and emergencies. As safety-related challenges continue to evolve, the program emphasizes proactive leadership, collaboration, and continuous improvement in school emergency preparedness.
