CCS Board

The Board of Education for Calhoun City Schools will meet the fourth Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Central Office located at 334 South Wall Street.

(*except when the school calendar calls for a school holiday and /or a joint meeting of the Board of Education and the Calhoun City Council is planned for the purpose of adopting the annual operating budget following guidelines prescribed in the City Charter)

The Calhoun City Schools’ Board of Education welcomes the public to its open meetings.   The Board of Education wishes to hear any interested citizen and/or employee of the school district.  

Individuals desiring to appear before the Board must first complete a sign-in sheet which shall be available thirty (30) minutes prior to the start of the meeting. Any person concerned with an administrative question should have exhausted all administrative channels before presenting to the Superintendent and/or Board. The individual should provide information showing that they have followed the proper chain of command. The presentation should be as brief as possible, yet include all information considered important by the speaker. Unless an extension of time is granted, each speaker shall not exceed three (3) minutes. If one (1) spokesman has presented a matter it is not necessary for others to repeat the same ideas. Others speaking on the same subject shall be limited to three (3) additional speakers. There shall be no more than (4) individuals speaking on the same subject. Remarks shall end when the speaker’s allotted time has expired.

Items which are excluded from the Open Meetings Act will not be discussed during the session. (This includes land, legal reference, individual student discipline cases and personnel items). A copy of the Compliments, Concerns, & Constructive Feedback protocol is available on the website for those who wish to have a discussion regarding concerns. Note: Board members will not take action during a Board meeting following public participation.

Eddie Reeves, Board Chair

Eddie Reeves proudly serves as the Chair of the Calhoun City Schools Board of Education, a role he previously held from 2014 to 2021. Dedicated to education and community leadership, he has been a strong advocate for Calhoun City Schools.

Eddie is the Human Resource and Benefits Practice Leader at Starr-Mathews Agency. He has served as Chairman of the Gordon County Chamber of Commerce, President of United Way of Calhoun/Gordon County, and Chairman of the Junior Achievement of Northwest Georgia Board of Directors. A graduate of Leadership Calhoun/Gordon County and Leadership Georgia, he remains committed to initiatives that strengthen the local community.

Eddie and his wife, Stephanie, have two children, Bailey (CHS ‘12) and Rucker (CHS ‘19), who currently attends the University of Georgia. Their family are active members of Calhoun First Baptist Church.

Becky Gilbert-George, Vice-Chair

Becky Gilbert-George proudly serves as the Vice Chair of the Calhoun City Schools Board of Education. A 1993 Calhoun High School graduate, she played basketball at Reinhardt College before earning her degree from Kennesaw State University. Becky has worked at IBM for over 25 years, specializing in sales, marketing, and management.

A dedicated community member, Becky volunteers over 150 hours annually with Calhoun City Schools and has been actively involved for more than 15 years in both volunteer and leadership roles. She previously served as PTO President at CPS, fundraising chair at CPS and Pre-K, and a PTO board member at CES. She has also led as President of the Calhoun Tip-Off Club and Volleyball Club. Additionally, Becky played a key role in the ESPLOST campaign committee for two terms, working alongside city and county school leaders to advocate for the continuation of the penny sales tax, which funded state-of-the-art facilities for CCS.

Becky is married to Ian Johns, and they have five children:
Jana, Jaide, Anna, Jace, and Blair.

Andy Baxter, Secretary

A proud 1998 graduate of Calhoun High School, Andy Baxter was deeply involved in the arts, serving as band president and earning a National Art Award. His passion for creativity led him to establish a successful photography business, and in 2011, he co-founded Baxter Dean Studio in downtown Calhoun. Through this venture, he has contributed to numerous community events, making Baxter Dean a recognized name in northwest Georgia.

Andy is dedicated to service, currently serving on the Downtown Development Authority, the Calhoun-Gordon Literacy Council, and the Business Engagement Committee with the Gordon County Chamber of Commerce. He also chairs Dancing with the Stars Calhoun and organizes annual fundraisers to support local charities. His commitment extends to Calhoun City Schools, where he has generously provided photography, signage, and artistic support.

Andy and his wife, Brooke, a fellow CHS alum, have two children— Luca (‘24), a recent CHS graduate, and Rocco (‘27), who proudly attends CHS.

Rhoda Washington, Board Member

Rhoda Washington is an active community leader, serving on the AdventHealth Hospital Foundation Board, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the Heating Energy Assistance Team (HEAT). She is the Southeast Territory Manager for AIG's HVAC Warranty Division, specializing in extended labor warranties for the heating and air conditioning industry. A 2013 graduate of Leadership Calhoun/Gordon County, Rhoda is dedicated to supporting local initiatives and organizations.

Rhoda and her husband, Bruce, are proud parents of Mackenzie, a 2007 CHS graduate and 2011 University of Georgia alumna. Mackenzie and her husband, Joseph Crist, have four children. Rhoda and Bruce are members of Rock Bridge Church in Calhoun.

Dr. Steve King, Board Member

Dr. Steve King proudly serves on the Calhoun City Schools Board of Education, bringing a strong commitment to education and community service. A graduate of the Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine, he completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Chattanooga and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. With over 20 years of experience in orthopedic practice, Dr. King moved to Calhoun when his children were in elementary school and has been an active supporter of the school system ever since.

Dr. King and his wife, Debbie, have two children, both Calhoun High School graduates - Ben (‘19) & Emma (‘20). Debbie and Emma own and operate The Pink Label, a clothing boutique in downtown Calhoun.

A public school advocate, Dr. King has taught and coached in public schools and at Greater Atlanta Christian School. He has served as an FCA Character Coach, provided athletic physicals, and actively supported students and school programs. “Both of my children thrived at Calhoun City Schools, and we are proud to be Calhoun Yellow Jackets,” he says.

Dr. Michele Taylor, Superintendent

Dr. Michele Taylor has served as Superintendent of Calhoun City Schools for 19 years, following prior roles as assistant superintendent, principal, media specialist, and teacher—all within the district she once attended as a student. A 1986 graduate of Calhoun High School, she has led the system to numerous achievements, including a 100% graduation rate and being named Georgia Charter System of the Year in both 2016 and 2022.

In 2014, Dr. Taylor was named Georgia Superintendent of the Year and a National Finalist by the American Association of School Administrators. Her leadership is recognized at the local, state, and national levels through service on multiple boards, including the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders, RESA, and the Georgia System Charter Foundation. She is a Paul Harris Fellow with the Calhoun Rotary Club and has chaired the Leadership Calhoun/Gordon County program for over 20 years.

She and her husband, Joe, are proud parents of Joseph and Anna, both Calhoun graduates. The Taylors remain active in the community and are members of Calhoun First Baptist Church.
