CALHOUN, GA — The Calhoun City Schools Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Sarah Layson to the Board of Education, filling the vacant Post 4 seat.
A dedicated community leader and advocate for education, Dr. Layson brings a wealth of experience in school governance and professional leadership to the district. Dr. Layson is a familiar face within the Calhoun City Schools system, having previously served on the School Governance Teams (SGT) at the Calhoun Early Learning Academy and most recently as Co-Chair for the Calhoun Elementary School SGT. Her transition to the Board reflects a long-standing commitment to the system’s mission of excellence.
“As a current CES Co-Chair for SGT and previous CELA SGT parent representative, healthcare leader, and long-time Calhoun resident, I am passionate about advancing educational excellence in our school system,” said Dr. Layson. “I see the importance of having representatives with various backgrounds and opinions to mold the direction of the most important asset in the community—our education system for our youth.”
Dr. Layson is a graduate of the Gordon County Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Calhoun-Gordon County and has contributed her time to several local organizations, including serving on the Boards of the Voluntary Action Center and the Gordon County United Way.
Professionally, Dr. Layson is a healthcare leader. She earned her Bachelor of Science (CLA ‘05) from Mercer University College of Liberal Arts and her Doctorate of Pharmacy (PHARM ‘10) from Mercer University’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. She maintains active memberships in the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) and the Georgia Pharmacy Association. She is currently a Clinical Account Manager for Capital RX pharmacy benefit management company.
Sarah and her husband Toby are parents to three children currently enrolled in Calhoun City Schools. Dr. Layson views her new role through both a professional and personal lens. She is committed to fostering an environment where every student has the resources to succeed.
“I am committed to upholding Board values through thoughtful collaboration, transparency, and a student-centered approach to decision-making,” Layson stated. “My leadership skills, combined with my deep respect for the educators of my children, parents in the community, and fellow students, motivate me to guide the district to create policies that promote opportunity, achievement, and inclusion of all learners.”
