BOE Meeting - Feb 2026

The February meeting of the Calhoun City Schools Board of Education began on a special note, as Ms. Ashley Storm’s Kindergarten Lavender Llamas led the evening. Students proudly led the Pledge of Allegiance, Millie Steely delivered the Invocation, and the class shared their “good things,” bringing energy and joy to the meeting’s opening moments.

The Board also welcomed its newest member, Dr. Sarah Layson, who was officially sworn in. During the meeting, leadership positions for the upcoming term were selected: Becky Gilbert-George was elected Board Chair, Andy Baxter was elected Vice Chair, and Rhoda Washington was elected Secretary.

Student and staff achievement remained a central focus of the evening. Calhoun High School’s 2026 PAGE STAR Student, Isaac Tibbs, was recognized alongside his STAR Teacher, Kelli DeGuire. Their dedication to academic excellence reflects the high standards upheld across the district.

The Board also recognized the top three finishers from the District Spelling Bee, Dax Murphy (8th grade), Lydia Whitlock (6th grade), and Eliam Marroquin (6th grade), for their outstanding performance and hard work.

In addition, several staff members were honored for earning advanced degrees this year. Those recognized included Lily Adams, Abigail Ayers, Stephen Gaylor, Alexandria Green, Allison Kirby, Cassey LeBoeuf, Haley Miller, Heather Morris, Reba Moss, Cassie Richardson, Annabelle Roper, and Dr. Chris Stephens. Their commitment to continued professional growth strengthens our schools and directly supports student success.

The meeting concluded with a discussion of new business and upcoming events, closing out an evening that highlighted leadership, achievement, and continued growth across Calhoun City Schools.
