CALHOUN, GA — Georgia State School Superintendent Richard Woods visited Calhoun City Schools today to formally recognize Calhoun Middle School as a Math Leader School. During the visit, Superintendent Woods presented the recognition ribbons from the Georgia Department of Education, marking a significant academic milestone.
Students welcomed Superintendent Woods upon his arrival before the celebration moved to the Media, College, & Career Center, where he met with members of the system leadership team, the Board of Education, and students to commemorate the achievement.
The Math Leader designation is awarded to schools demonstrating achievement and growth in mathematics. Calhoun Middle School earned the highest honor of Distinguished Achievement recognition with 100% proficient and above, from Mrs. Megan Woodman’s Honors Algebra I students during the 2024–2025 school year.
“Achieving a 100% pass rate in Honors Algebra I is a remarkable accomplishment and a reflection of the high expectations set for our students,” said CCS Superintendent Dr. Michele Taylor. “Mrs. Woodman’s leadership and our students’ hard work truly exemplify the excellence we strive for at Calhoun City Schools.”
Those students have since transitioned to Calhoun High School, where they are now freshmen. Their success at the middle school level has provided a strong academic foundation as they continue pursuing advanced coursework and academic honors.
Superintendent Dr. Michele Taylor also highlighted a meaningful connection during the visit, sharing that Board Member Dr. Sarah Layson was once a student of Superintendent Woods, a reminder of the lasting influence educators have on the students they serve.
