Calhoun City Schools Board of Education Announces Post 4 Vacancy Following Administrative Promotion

The Calhoun City Schools Board of Education announces a leadership transition regarding Board Post 4, following the recent professional advancement of Shelly Hood to the position of assistant principal at Calhoun Primary School. While the school system celebrates Mrs. Hood’s move into administrative leadership, her new role creates a conflict of interest for her brother in law, Jeffrey M. Hood, who was recently selected to fill the vacant seat on the Board of Education.

Under Georgia Code § 20-2-51, individuals are ineligible to serve on a local board of education if an immediate family member serves as a superintendent, principal, assistant principal, or system administrative staff.

To ensure the district remains in full compliance with state law, Mr. Hood will not be eligible to fill the seat. Board Chair Becky Gilbert George shared, "The Board of Education expresses its gratitude to Mr. Hood for his willingness to serve and wishes to congratulate Mrs. Hood on her new leadership role within the district. We plan to reevaluate the process for filling the Post 4 vacancy at the January Board of Education work session."
